How do I become a member of the club?
If you'd like to participate in our free beginner social dance lessons, all you have to do is show up at one of our lessons. Check in at the front desk and you will be added to our attendance roster for the social dance lessons. If you'd like to become part of the team (the main part of our club), attend one of the newcomer group lessons on a Wednesdays at 8:00pm in the Carmichael Gym Dance Studio. We charge dues to be part of the team, but you will find that learning to dance through our club costs roughly 10% of what it would cost for an equivalent amount of lessons at a local ballroom dance studio. Please see the team section of the website for more information; this is also where you can find the team registration forms which you should also bring your first time, along with your dues.
Do I need to have a partner?
Nope, but bring your friends! The more, the merrier.
Do I need to have experience?
Nope. One of our original club slogans was "No partner? No experience? No problem!". Most of the people that come to the club have zero experience. Athletes seem to do very well in our club, though many people have come into the club with no dance or athletic experience and have still become great dancers.
What is the team?
The team is the main part of our club. We have more lessons, and as a group, we progress through our dancing together. We bring in professional instructors for our Bronze and higher proficiency dancers, and veteran team members (several of which are national champions in their proficiency level) teach our newest members. We also do things together like go to competitions, go on trips, party, go to dance clubs, and go to social dances. You DO NOT have to compete if you're on the team, but most team members try competition at least once.
When are lessons?
Free beginner social lessons are on either Tuesday or Thursday weekly 8:30-9:30pm in the Talley Student Center Ballroom. Also be sure to check out the Calendar for more information on lessons and social events.
